The Atheist Killed his Own God?

I’ve argued that atheism is a zombie ideology, i.e. an ideology that has outlived its usefulness but still runs amuck eating brains, but these guys argue it was never useful even for its own purposes:

The context is that atheist apologist Peter Boghossian of Street Epistemology fame has been increasingly realizing that the left is crazy: he is still a liberal and still an atheist, but he sees that the New Atheist project of discrediting religious belief in order to strengthen liberal rationalism was a failure. Could it be that eroding people’s residual Christianity does not make them more rational, but less?

Theoretically, yes. If materialism were true then human intelligence would not be a truth-finding tool but an eating-and-breeding optimization tool. The idea that there is a “truth” out there to be discovered and which will improve mankind as both individuals and societies is a theistic belief.

That having been said I don’t think there is a direct link between the New Atheist project and the insanity of the post-liberal left, New Atheism was a relatively small affair. The forces behind the disintegration of culture, community, reason, and religion are much more powerful, and have been at work for much longer.

  1. Unsurprisingly, still no evidence from theists that their imaginary friends are real.

it’s also so sweet when liars try to claim that atheists have a “god”. Curious how that never works out.

Happily, this is pure nonsense. There can be truth without your imaginary friend, or you.
